Sadly, I have not gotten around to printing out all the images from our wedding. I opted for an image disk collection with the intentions of designing an album...but you know things go... ;)
Every now and then I end up going through the disk and discover photos I don't remember catching the first time...happy little suprises. :) I love the rays of sun peaking into this photo.

My parents are on their journey back home from an extended weekend in Oklahoma where they spent some time with my Aunt JoAnn and Uncle Jerry and family. A very tough weekend for all. Aunt JoAnn is like a Mom to my Mom, so it is so hard to hear my Mom so sad. Please keep the prayers coming...prayers that Aunt JoAnn doesn't suffer and that this remaining time is happy and filled with all the love that we all have for her. She is most deserving.

The Hills Finale

Oh yes, just about the only show I seem to catch these days is The Hills...and the finale (though rather lackluster) was on last night. And I came across this funny parody of The Hills on youtube. Anyone who is a regular viewer of the show is sure to find this amusing:

Thank You.

Thank you to all who took the time to write a note and send your prayers and wishes for my Aunt JoAnn this past week. It means more than you know. I've had quite a few melancholy moments...mostly in the car alone, but a little more sunshine is creeping in more every day and the sadness is easing a bit...

I always talk about little things that are different about where I used to live and where I am now, and one of those things is the presence of God in everyday places. At the YMCA gym by my house, there is a little box "Vitamins for the Soul" which contains little pieces of rolled up paper verses or quotes. And I've gotten used to grabbing one just about every time on my way out the gym. The ones that I like especially I tend to keep in my car, usually near the spedometer...a good reminder just about every day you get in the car. My newest one for the past week, is from Ralph Waldo Emerson (I had to look it up online, I just figured it was from the Bible..LOL):

"All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen."

Good reminder for all the stuff going on right now.

So I will do my best to cheer up things around here. I told my Mom the other day that no one likes to be around unhappy people. :) There are some good things to be happy and thankful for:

1. My best friend from high school, Lauren, is due to give birth TODAY. She affectionately calls her little guy "Bean" so were hoping for a true Cinco de Mayo baby. :) She was even craving my Dad's yummy Carne Asada tacos he used to make for us at Lake Mead back in the day. But as I know right now, no debut. I love the wonder of Yahoo messenger. It is so great to chat with girlfriends -- across the country -- at least once a day, checking in during the morning hours before work gets under way. I've had the chance to talk to her just about every other day since I can't remember when! :)

2. We are headed to So. California for 6 days in June/July for a family wedding. Looking forward to spending some quality with both sides of our families and getting my toes in the sand at the beach.

3. Girls Trip/Bachelorette Party in July for my friend Jenny...looking forward to heading back to Reno, it's been years!

4. Coming up this weekend is Steeplechase! Our "costumes" are complete and we can't wait! I think I've explained before that Steeplechase is Nashville's version of the Kentucky Derby...little did we know anything about this two years ago...we joined a tailgate that did a Luau theme, I had no idea people dressed in dresses and hats and seersucker outfits...I felt like a outcast (well our tailgate anyway) ;) in my shorts and flipflops...so this year we have done it right! The pictures will be great I am predicting! Here are a few from two years ago...

Steeplechase1
This picture makes it look small, but really it is a sea of canopies as far as the eye can see...and this is the infield track that the horses race around. You drive in at 9am and you don't get let out until 5pm! See all the hats?? :)

Steeplechase2

Brandon is not a fan of this picture (I agree) but it shows off how pitiful we felt in our out of place costumes. :)

Steeplechase3

This last one is a favorite because it shows off the entertainment that comes around late afternoon when all the 20 year olds stumble around barefoot, straps broken off their White House Black Market dresses, holding their Jimmy Choo high heels in their hands, while the girlfriends hold their hair back on the side of lifted pick-up trucks. This one even manages to take a puff in between...

Only in Nashville, Tennessee can you find such classy broads.

Too Good

Too Good
November 21, 2005

A year ago almost to the day, in a devotional titled "Sad Little Shovels," I quoted a friend of mine who was battling cancer with an unforgettable explanation of what he was about to go through during one of his treatments. “One doctor referred to [it] as getting hit by the train, then the trucks on the train pull out and hit you, and then their cargo of charging horses run over you too. Only then do the guys with the sad little shovels come and get you and sweep you away.”

Well, Dwight had an up and down year, and on November 14, 2005 he lost his battle with cancer, but won his battle with Satan over any claim on his eternal soul. He is free at last.

This is always so hard, but especially hard when a person has made himself as vulnerable as Dwight has during this process. His emails are now collected in a cancer journal (www.dwightozard.com) that some of you may want to look into but not without a warning: “Danger, contents are painfully real, as in 'Cancer books suck.'”

But you will also find things like: “I've discovered that nurses are among the most underpaid and underappreciated people in the world. I've discovered that my best friends are exactly that. I've discovered that my family--all of it, genetic and 'in-law'--are the best. I've discovered my own capacity for ingratitude. I've discovered my wife's unending patience and that she deserves more than I can give her. And I've discovered that a lot of the stuff I've discovered, other people don't think about nearly as much as they should.”

As you can see, Dwight was an excellent writer so his work is hard to dismiss. As happens for Christians who walk this road, his faith and hope held up to the end, but not by glossing over the reality of his situation or his real feelings. This is a kind of faith we rarely see, but need to know exists. If it weren't for people like Dwight, we might get the impression that faith paints everything a rosy color and wonder if there is something wrong when our own picture stays bleak and gray. Truth is, faith might not change the picture, but it will come alongside and hold you up and, most importantly, carry you to the end, because the end for those who believe is only the beginning.

The following is from an entry in Dwight's journal only a few weeks ago:

Either way, we want to just make the most of this thing, to use a metaphor that I'm certain is inappropriate, given my disease, to suck the marrow out the bones of life, to live deeply and without reservation, hesitation or fear. To breathe deep the air of spring and the breath of God, to savor the depths of flavors and the best of God's good earth and to "taste and see" the goodness of God, to hold the things that matter close to the heart, to treasure the hard parts of loving and frolic like a 4-year old in a mud puddle in the good, easy parts.

Don't waste this thing.

It's too good.

Thank you

Thank you for your kind words and offer for prayers. Aunt JoAnn has been sent home from the hospital to spend the remaining time with family. I can't imagine what it must be like to know you have two months left....But it certainly puts things and life in perspective for me. I feel so sad and constantly asking myself in the car how such a horrible thing could happen to such a wonderful person.

As for her, being the strong and faithful woman that she is, I can only imagine she is savoring each moment and preparing for what is next.

Hug and tell your loved one  and tell them you love them today.

Prayer Request

My mom called me this afternoon to let me know my (great) Aunt JoAnn is in the hospital. The doctors believe she has pancreatic cancer. The prognosis does not look good whatsoever. We will know more tomorrow.

This is sudden and shocking for us all. If you could kindly add her and our family to your prayers, it is appreciated..

My aunt and uncle were the last couple standing at our anniversary dance at our wedding. They have been married for over 46+ wonderful years. :) Such a wonderful, good person with a huge heart and a big smile. I love her so very much.

Wow! 2 posts from me in one day!
Sadly, neither involve any scrappy-goodness.  I'm starting to get that itch again, really! Even hubby the other day made some sly comment how I don't use my scrapbooking room anymore except as an office! Yikes!

I did want to give an update since I've received many comments or emails and have been very bad at replying to emails....

1. The house selling is going okay. We had a ton of action the first 2 weeks on the market. Lots of showings...even two that were going to put down offers. But then, nothing materialized. Nada. Zilch. And it is quite depressing. We had an open house on Sunday and with our luck, it started pouring down raining just an hour before the open house! Still, our realtor thought it went well - 5 showings during the two hours. We are trying so hard to be patient. Our dream house is still on the market thank goodness.

2. I never gave info on where we are moving! Actually only 10 minutes down the road (that is if all goes according to plan). LOL. It is a new subdivision right across the street from Old Hickory Lake. They are all on really large beautiful lots - the house we want is on almost 3/4 of an acre and is filled with trees in the back! The house is what I call our 30 year house. We never plan on moving again - for at least 30 years anyway - it is that perfect! We've visited it at least a dozen times since we found it one month ago and have everything planned out. Sadly not everything goes accordingly to plan in life (so everyone reminds me anyway), and our dream house is now the least expensive in the entire neighborhood. And, we cannot afford/desire any more expensive of a house, so if this is all to be, this is THE ONE.  But yes,  God has a plan. So if this doesn't work out, it's all good. It would just be really really nice. ;)

3. I've been loving the weather lately - been great for outdoors stuff. I need to share my kayak pictures from our trip two weeks ago. They are hilarious! And I'm excited that we are going white water rafting with a big group of friends at the end of this month! It has been a dream since we moved here to do that! (And yes, we are going with a rafting company NOT our kayaks just to clarify - MOM!) ;)

4. If you read this blog, leave a comment! I want to check out some of your blogs! ;)

Southern Living

One of my favorite things about living in Tennessee is the abundance of fresh flowers and produce at little road side stands and markets. Growing up in Southern California, it was very common for Mom or Dad to stop and buy bags of oranges or big trays of strawberries from immigrant farmers at freeway off-ramps on the way home. The fresh fruit always seemed tastier to me than anything in a regular ole' grocery store.

Obviously things don't grow very well in Las Vegas, and anyone standing on the side of the interstate would die of heat exhaustion in the summer,  so the little wooden stands on various roads here is quite delightful. I love pointing them out to out of state visitors explaing to them how funny it is they leave their flowers and ferns (and pumpkins in the fall) out ALL NIGHT LONG - UNSUPERVISED - and get this, NO ONE STEALS ANYTHING. Crazy huh?!?!

Maples Wedding Cakes - Website Launch

Contact_2

I had the honor of redesigning the website of Maples Wedding Cakes and I'm happy to announce the launch of it as of this morning: http://www.maplesweddingcakes.com

Jay Qualls and his bakery have unbelievably beautiful and delicious cakes! Mary Alice came along for the photoshoot with myself and Dove Wedding Photography a few weeks back. His shop is filled with dozens of beautiful couture cakes to view. MWC is unique in that each cake is especially designed for each client! He actually sketches out your cake during your consultation and you taste dozens of delicious flavors.  My personal favorite flavor is orange dreamsicle. Yum! I do love the Almond as well...and strawberry...oh..I can't decide which is best!

Be sure to check out the new site and his new blog for the latest cake creations! Best Wishes Jay! Also thank you to talented photography by Whitney Carlson from Dove. These photographs belong in Martha Stewart Weddings magazine!

PS- Maples Wedding Cakes will be having an Open House in a few short weeks - more info to come

TGIF!

Yay! Happy for Friday! One day closer to our true maiden voyage in our new kayaks purchased a few weeks back. We are going with a local meetup.com group on a 5hour trip down the Harpeth River tomorrow. It's a pretty easy-going river I'm told...no whitewater. :) I will be bringing the camera, so lots of photos to share! This is one of the many reasons we love living in Tennessee...there is so much to do outdoors!

The wedding season has begun and I have been a designing fool! Lots of orders (8+ in the last week) from my website coming in for all occasions. I will be sure to share some of the finished designs very soon. My poor website is in need of some serious redesign to showcase all the new work from the past year...that is on my to-do list!

Happy Friday - hope it's 78 degrees and sunny where you're at today too! ;)
